SOSNA Seeking Water Ambassadors

Another hot and relatively dry summer is taking its toll on the neighborhood's young trees and we need your help to keep them alive! The need is URGENT! Last summer we lost a number of trees because of inadequate water intake. We do not want history to repeat itself.

Young/newly planted trees in an urban environment need lots of water to establish themselves - roughly 20 gallons of water/week for the first two years (i.e., summers) of its life. Your help is much needed to ensure survival!

Please sign-up to be a Water Ambassador at one of the following locations and help save a life this summer. The need is now!

  • 16th and Catharine Streets = 4 trees:
  • First African Baptist Church = 8 trees:
    • 16th Street side
    • Montrose Street side
  • Julian Abele Park = 18 trees:
    • Montrose Street side
    • 22nd Street side
    • Carpenter Street side

We will provide the hose and the "tree gator" bags; you provide the water source (we can assist with helping to locate one) and your time (bags fill fast). To sign up, reply to GreenTriage-SWCC at GreenTriageSWCC@gmail.com with your interest. Sign up as an individual or with partners to share the load either weekly, or as you can.

Also, please join us on Saturday, July 23rd at Julian Abele Park, 8:30-10:30AM for the launch of GreenTriage-SWCC  = our new pruning and tree care group!
