CHOP Construction on the South Street Bridge

At the end of May, the Schuylkill Avenue CHOP expansion project began construction on the garage entrance off of the South Street Bridge. The southern sidewalk will temporarily be closed and all pedestrians should use the northern sidewalk to cross the bridge. Chop will maintain one traffic lane and one bike lane in either direction for the duration of the construction. More detailed closures are listed below.

Phase 1 (South side):

o  Taking place from 5/31/16 – 8/17/16

o One full drive lane and bike lane will be provided on the eastbound lane. The right turn lane onto Schuylkill Ave. will be reduced in length, but still accessible.  The westbound lanes will not be impacted.  Pedestrian traffic will be diverted to north side at Trail Crossing and 27th St.

Phase 2 (North Side):

o Taking place from 8/18/16 – 10/14/16

o One full drive lane and bike lane will be provided on the westbound lane. Pedestrian traffic will be diverted to north side at Trail Crossing and 27th St.

Phase 3 (Traffic control/paving):

o Taking place from 10/10/16 – 10/14/16, between the hours of 11:00pm-5:00am.

o One full drive lane will be provided for both eastbound and westbound traffic. The traffic will be controlled by flaggers on site.

Appropriate traffic precautions will be utilized for closures, such as barriers, fencing, flexible delineators, modified striping, signage, police/flagger presence, etc. Please be aware that these dates are based on projections and are subject to change. CHOP will do their best communicate any significant changes to the timeline in advance, if possible.

Please continue to report any issues to the dedicated hotlines (SchuylkillAvenueProject@email.chop.edu and 267-425-9797).
