PMBC Clean Blocks

Initiative:
Clean and Green

SOSNA's Clean & Green Committee supports PMBC's Clean Block clean-up events which are scheduled throughout the year in our (17th) District. Cleaning blocks doesn't just rid the the neighborhood of trash, it also leads to benefits such as:

  • Increase in property values
  • Decrease in adult and juvenile crime
  • Development of civic interest and community pride

The Philadelphia More Beautiful Committee schedules its Clean Block events on Saturdays. Some of the things you should know about Clean Block events:

  • All debris should be bagged and placed at either end of the block to facilitate collection.
  • No bulk or household trash will be collected during the Saturday Clean-up Program.
  • Do not sweep trash or dirt into inlets.
  • Streets should not be blocked off with parked cars during cleaning.

Brooms and bags are always available for these events at our office. Call to arrange to get  supplies for your block.  First come, first served.

In addition, blocks (through your Block Captain, if you have one) may contact our PMBC Clean Block Officer (Bill Stern at 215-685-3989) for supplies at least three (3) weeks in advance of the listed cleaning dates. NOTE: If your block doesn't have a PMBC Block Captain, let Bill know and ask him how to volunteer to be one.
