The SOSNA Pedestrian Advisory Committee and UICS applied for and received a special “mini-grant” from the National Center for Safe Routes to Schools. (View press release here.) The intent of the mural is to bring attention to the school zone at 15th and Catharine Streets in the heart of the Universal Institute Charter School (UICS) campus. This low-cost, high-visibility project alerts motorists to all types, especially cars, to proceed with caution through the intersection.

The mural was painted by members of the PedAC, Universal employees, and UICS students. Many thanks to all who helped make this possible, including the National Center for Safe Routes to School, the Philadelphia Streets Department, the Philadelphia Police, Council President Anna Verna, the Managing Director's Office, Universal Companies, and the nearby residents.
