About the Neighborhood
Southwest Center City is the neighborhood bounded by South Street, Broad Street, Washington Avenue, and The Schuylkill River. It's an area sometimes called South of South, or Graduate Hospital. Regardless of what you call our neighborhood, we hope you call it home for your family or business.
We are a diverse and vibrant community of people, all living in this neighborhood of affordable two/three story homes, as well as upscale three and four story townhouses. Together we enjoy our tree-lined streets brimming with colorful window boxes, some of the best independent cafes, bustling bars, excellent gastropubs, ethnic restaurants, and relaxing Irish pubs -- and all the other great benefits of one of Philadelphia's finest neighborhoods.
We are just steps away from many of the amenities that make Philadelphia a world class city: walk to the highlife, shopping and restaurants of Rittenhouse Square; take in a play on The Avenue of the Arts; walk, jog or ride your bike along the beautiful Schuylkill River Park and Trail, and you'll soon find yourself at the Philadelphia Museum of Art; check out South Street for the never-ending display of youth culture, fun bars and crazy shops. The University of Pennsylvania is right across the river to the west; and just a short stroll to the east is The Italian Market -- yo! bags full of veggies for pocket change, the atmosphere is free!
SWCC is growing at an amazing pace. Everywhere you look, new townhomes, new corner coffee shops, restaurants, and bars are adding to the amenities that have long characterized this neighborhood -- including our beautiful old churches, the Marian Anderson Recreation Center, and the historic Christian Street YMCA.
All of these things make Southwest Center City a great place to live and work, but most of all it's the great people who live here. If you are already a resident or business owner in the SOSNA area, we hope that you will come out to our meetings and participate. And if you are not, we invite you to come enjoy some of the great things our neighborhood has to offer.
